Last weekend was quite a long one for the Ma’ayanot Rapids. After two incredible wins—Frisch and SAR—Ma’ayanot was up yet again, this time against Bruriah Lightning. Even though the game was far, there were some dedicated parents in the stand cheering on the Rapids.
In the first inning Adina Rosenberg ’16 made an incredible play for the second out. Noa Applebaum ’17 then struck out the third batter in the lineup. At bat, Mia Nissel ’19 came home when Rebecca Malech ’18 hit a triple.
Noa had a great second inning, striking out two more players. Gabi Lerner ’16 made the second out at first when she caught a pop-up.
The third inning was the most remarkable—9 runs came in for Ma’ayanot. At this point the score was 10-0 with the Rapids in the lead. The outstanding part of the inning was when Danielle Pasternack ’17 hit a two run double, after 5 players already made it home.
In the fourth inning the Rapids brought in seven runs and held Bruriah at none, making this their second mercy win in two days. The final score was 17-0 Ma’ayanot.
Next up for the Ma’ayanot Rapids were the playoffs. After the softball team had a short break, SKA was coming to The Shark Tank, aka New Field in Teaneck. The first inning came and went quickly, with one run for the Rapids. The team held their own in the field, not allowing SKA to score. Sarah Berman ’18 is the real winner. She caught a pop up at home, making an incredible out in the second inning. Another out was made by Tamar Nissel ’16 when she made an incredible tag at third, after a great thrown by Sima Zand ’16.
Three runs came quickly in the third inning, making the large crowd of fans all the more excited to cheer on last year’s champions. The icing on the cake was the fourth and final inning, when the Ma’ayanot Rapids brought in 8 runs. Game ball went to none other than Becca Malech ’18, known for her incredible batting skills. She hit a triple and brought in three runs. Noa Applebaum ’17 pitched a great game, holding SKA scoreless. The Rapids won again beating SKA 12-0.
