Bruriah Kicks Off Middos Program

The Bruriah students recently held an inspiring MAPS program. MAPS (Middos Are the Purpose) is a beautiful, student-initiated, student-led, inter-track learning program dedicated to middos and self-improvement. The program, led this year by sophomore Faiga Gordon, junior Shira Abramoff, and senior Chaya Bernhaut, enables the entire student body to learn and grow together as a school community.

For this first session, the topic chosen by the MAPS heads was the middah of chesed. The MAPS heads organized source materials related to chesed, and students learned the sources together in groups and then discussed ways they can practically apply the middah to their lives. “Chesed is such an important part of our interpersonal relationships, both in and out of school,” explained Abramoff, “I got such joy seeing everyone learn together.”

Junior Shana Markowitz appreciated the new perspective she gleaned from the program. She shared, “It felt good to learn from materials that other students created. You get to see what your peers value and what they think about.”

Dr. Bethany Strulowitz, principal at Bruriah, shared, “The MAPS program represents the very best at Bruriah: inspiring and engaging learning, personal growth, and student leadership. We are so proud of each of our students for their commitment towards learning and growing together in their avodas Hashem.”
