Conductor Brings New Voice to HaZamir International Jewish Teen Choir

Shahar Regev

(Courtesy of Zamir) Zamir Choral Foundation welcomes conductor Shahar Regev to the Manhattan chapter of HaZamir: The International Jewish Teen Choir, as the 2023-24 season gets underway.

An Israeli now living in New York, Regev is an award-winning professional composer, musician, singer, cellist and pianist. She has performed internationally, and her works have been featured by orchestras and ensembles in Israel and the United States.

“The extremely talented Shahar is a wonderful addition to our HaZamir family and our Manhattan chapter,” said Vivian Lazar, director of HaZamir. “As HaZamir brings together teens from Israel and the U.S. to join in harmony, she provides a unique international perspective for the young singers.”

HaZamir was created in 1993 by maestro Matthew Lazar of Zamir Choral Foundation as a platform for teens to sing great Jewish music at the highest standard of excellence. It invests in young people so they have a deeper understanding of the music and texts of their people that are fueled by the values, traditions and glory of Judaism and artistic expression.

The choir comprises high school teens in 27 U.S. chapters plus 10 cities in Israel. Next spring, hundreds of these young singers will gather together for a three-day festival, culminating in a gala performance at Carnegie Hall in New York on April 7.

Teens in New York City entering grades 9-12 are encouraged to join the HaZamir Manhattan chapter. For more information visit www.hazamir.org or email [email protected]
