The Thursday afternoon before Shabbat Rosh Hashanah began, when most families were home together cooking and preparing for the holiday, 30 Manhattan Day School students and families gathered together for a pre-holiday program. MDS Parents Council and Chesed Committee participants spent quality time together with 16 older adults from DOROT, crafting Rosh Hashanah cards, sharing Jewish melodies, and chatting and learning about one another. The room was buzzing with conversation and joy, especially as the MDS children handed their new DOROT senior friends hand-labeled jars of honey and personalized cards. This intergenerational program was a beautiful and sweet way for MDS and DOROT to ring in the Jewish new year together and show what community and the holiday is all about
