(Jewish Link) Edan Alexander, 19, a 2022 graduate of Tenafly High School, is among several New Jerseyans missing since Hamas launched its surprise attack on Israel on October 7. Alexander was serving as a soldier in the IDF’s Golani Brigade 51st Division and was stationed near Gaza at the time of the attack.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy made the announcement at a candlelight vigil in Hoboken, “Hoboken Hearts Israel,” held on Tuesday night, October 10 for the victims. He said that he had received the information from Alexander’s family.

“We pray for Edan’s swift, safe return,” the governor added. “And we pray for every family in New Jersey—and across the country—with loved ones who are still unaccounted for.”

Former New Jersey resident Laor Abramov, 20, is also among those missing. He lived in the Garden State until last year, when he made the decision to serve in the IDF. He moved to Israel to later decide to become a DJ like his father.

The last time his family heard from Abramov, he was entering an Israeli bomb shelter after Hamas terrorists stormed the music festival he had been attending.

The next day, they heard from a survivor from the shelter that the terrorists had thrown grenades into the shelter and then taken anyone who survived away in a truck. Abramov was seen being taken into the truck, according to the witness.

Also on Tuesday night, it was reported that New Jersey-born Itay Glisko, 20, who was also serving in the IDF, was killed in the attack by Hamas, according to a family member. Glisko lived in Fair Lawn before making aliyah with his family when he was just an infant.

Glisko’s family last heard from him at 11 a.m. on the morning of October 7 when he reached out to tell them that his army base had been invaded by terrorists in a surprise attack. According to a cousin, Glisko had switched shifts with another soldier who was unavailable for his shift.
