The world has changed dramatically since I wrote my letter expressing my disappointment that Jewish teens would go to the southern border and assist migrants who enter our country illegally (“Liberal Activism in Our Schools,” September 7, 2023).

As Israel deals with the aftermath of unspeakable horror and prepares to, hopefully, finish off Hamas once and for all, many U.S. officials and news pundits have expressed concern that our nonexistent southern border is allowing for just about anyone with evil intentions to cross our border. Since October 1, Customs and Border Patrol have caught and detained illegals from Egypt, Lebanon, Iran, Russia and China, as well as men on the terrorist watch list. They are currently in FBI custody. Those are just the ones who have been caught. Already, there is a call from the “Democratic Socialist” faction of Congress to welcome refugees from Gaza.

There are people coming here unchecked from countries that hate us. While it might be heartwarming to think they’re coming here for a better life, one has to be unbelievably naive not to see that many of them do not have good intentions. I, for one, will not apologize for being vigilant.
