The Riverdale Repertory Company is proud to present “Fiddler on the Roof” in a limited run at the Riverdale Y, November 11-November 19. Close to 50 actors ranging from ages 12 to 70-plus have come together to tell the story of the small Jewish town of Anatevka through the lens of Tevye, the dairyman, as he navigates the balance between tradition and a rapidly changing world.
From the celebration of tradition, love and family relationships, the messages of “Fiddler” are timeless. But right now, these values resonate a little more poignantly with the cast of this show, many of whom are members of the Jewish community, grappling with the aftermath of the recent attacks in Israel and surges in antisemitism around the world. Just like Tevye, many of the Riverdale Y’s members are thinking more about what it means to be Jewish today and coming to terms with telling a story that continues to play out, generation after generation.
A musical masterpiece, “Fiddler on the Roof” offers the perfect mix of humor and heart, woven into the fabric of Joseph Stein’s book and Sheldon Harnick’s lyrics.
“Fiddler on the Roof” is directed and choreographed by Laurie Walton and includes musical direction by Bob Walton and Justin Fischer with additional choreography by Allison Podolsky.
