TABC JV and Varsity Hockey Open Season With Wins

(TABC Sports) It was back to business as usual at the Weather Center in Teaneck, as the TABC varsity hockey team kicked off their season in resounding fashion against the JEC Thunder. Before the puck dropped, TABC’s Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Joshua Kahn set the tone by leading the crowd in Tehillim as a display of unity. The national anthems were then played with an Israeli flag draped over the starters on the court. During the game, TABC led from start to finish and easily earned the victory with hat tricks from seniors Shay Fields and Lazer Cohen. All in all, 13 different players scored for TABC.

Meanwhile, the team’s JV counterparts, who also happen to be the reigning MYHSAL JV hockey champions, traveled to Yeshiva University on Motzei Shabbos to take on the MTA Lions. The Storm were looking to kick off the season on a winning note as they commenced their quest to add a consecutive championship trophy to their case. MTA held their own against the reigning champs, benefiting from the home-court advantage. The game was knotted at 0 at the end of the first period, much to the crowd’s surprise. Then, TABC sophomore Jaden Leffel broke the deadlock for the Storm in the second period. Leffel took the ball from the point and placed it past the MTA goaltender to give TABC its first goal of the new season. MTA tried to find that equalizer but had trouble finding a way past TABC goaltender Netanel Kalb all night. With less than a few minutes remaining in the game and MTA throwing everything but the kitchen sink in search of that equalizer, freshman Jake Rubinstein iced the game with an insurance goal and that was all she wrote.

The JV Storm now look to their home opener in a couple of weeks against the Rambam Ravens. Prior to the start of that game, TABC will raise their championship banner from the 2022-2023 season in what promises to be an exciting night on Queen Anne Road.
