On Monday, August 8, the Fair Lawn Jewish Day Camp celebrated its ninth year in existence. A record number of 400 campers, in addition to staff, counselors and special activity instructors took part in a photo together with Bris Avrohom and Fair Lawn Jewish Day Camp staff and many public officials, including Congressman Scott Garrett; Mayor John Cosgrove; County Clerk John Hogan; Tracy Zur, chairwoman, Board of Chosen Freeholders; Tom Sullivan, member, Board of Chosen Freeholders, Dr. Tim Eustace, assemblyman, 38th district; Sheriff Michael Saudino; Marc Schrieks, deputy chief of staff to Bergen county executive James Tedesco III; Josh Gottheimer, democratic candidate for New Jersey’s 5th Congressional district; Councilwoman Mary J. Amoroso, Mahwah Township; Germaine Ortiz of Emerson, candidate for freeholder; and Jean Jedavia, confidential secretary to Sheriff Saudino.
Proclamations were presented to the camp declaring August 8 to be Fair Lawn Jewish Day Camp Day.
Bris Avrohom, located in Fair Lawn, operates the Fair Lawn Jewish Day Camp under the leadership and guidance of Rabbi Mendel & Mrs. Elke Zaltzman. The center provides services to the Russian Jewish community.
Fair Lawn Jewish Day Camp is located on the sprawling campus of Yeshivat Noam in Paramus. The campers enjoy the pleasantries of summer with swimming, trips and arts & crafts. To quell their inquisitive minds the camp provides professional instructors in various stimulating activities. The campers are taken on trips three times each week. Hot lunches are served daily, along with nourishment for the campers’ Jewish souls to help form their Jewish identities. There are teachings on basic knowledge of Judaism, history, stories and backgrounds on the Jewish holidays. The campers take home arts and crafts projects centered around these teachings.
The increase in registration attests to the success of this day camp.
