Yeshivat He’Atid Eighth Graders Debate Censorship

The eighth graders are in the midst of reading the Ray Bradbury novella, “Fahrenheit 451.” Central to the text is the issue of censorship. Because censorship is such a controversial topic, it was the perfect subject matter for a debate. Debating teams were formed and the roles of debaters and researchers were assigned. Students were also chosen to be judges. After much research of the novella, four outstanding, spirited debates were held. Students not only honed their research and debating skills, but they also appreciated learning literature from a different perspective.
