Last week, fifth and sixth grade girls and boys, along with their parents, joined together for WTA’s annual Bar and Bat Mitzvah Night. Everyone joined together to understand the importance of becoming a bar/bat mitzvah and the exciting things to come. During the study session, boys learned about the new mitzvot that they would be taking on (tefillin, leining and zimun), while girls learned in chavruta with their parents and friends about Sarah Imenu, and the mitzvot specific to women and girls. Afterwards, everyone joined together for the mitzvah of hafrashat challah and to daven for the chayalim and chayalot who are putting their lives on the line for the sake of Am Yisrael. To honor them, the challot were braided in the shape of the magen david.
