The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Ronnie Gologorsky as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The eighth grader at The Moriah School is widely considered to be the most lethal outside shooter amongst all players in the community. He drilled several 3-pointers en route to a team-high 20 points in Moriah’s grade 7th grade YMSSA championship win last year. In the Hoop Heaven travel league playoffs, Ronnie stepped up big time for CMEK, as they were without a key starter. He scored 24 in the semifinal against the warriors and 18 points against the Mustangz in the final. When asked about Golorosky, Chad Mekles of CMEK told The Jewish Link, “Ronnie is a great player, but moreover, he’s an equally great kid off the court. He leads by example and is well-liked and respected by all of his teammates and coaches.”
Ronnie, mazel tov on your recent bar mitzvah and congrats on being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who are your role models and why?
My parents are my role models because they constantly push me to do my very best, are always supportive, are hardworking and love spending time with me and my siblings.
What is your favorite sport?
My favorite sport is basketball. I like to get “in the zone” when I shoot around, I’m very competitive, and it’s a fun sport to play with my friends.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
My greatest sports accomplishments were winning the Yeshiva League championship in seventh grade with my Moriah team, and winning the Hoop Heaven Championship recently with my CMEK team.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
My favorite athlete is Tom Brady. While he may not be the strongest or the biggest, he is one of the smartest players. His success shows that hard work and intellect are just as important, if not more important, than natural skill.
What is your earliest sports memory?
My earliest sports memory is my CMEK birthday party when I turned 6 years old. We had recently moved to Englewood, and that was my first birthday party in my new community. It was a lot of fun!
What is your weirdest sports memory?
My dad taught me to ride a bike when I turned 3. I hadn’t yet learned how to stop properly by myself, and I kept crashing into the garage door when I made circles on our driveway.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
I love reading, playing chess and spending time with my family and friends. We enjoy shooting around at the JCC, playing kickball in the park and getting into really competitive board game tournaments on Shabbat.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
As the oldest kid in my family, it’s fun to show my siblings (who all also play basketball!) that practice and hard work pay off on the court.
