Last week, members of the Teaneck Jewish community gathered at Teaneck High School to attend the first public Board of Education meeting since students walked out of class in support of Palestine on November 29. Many community leaders had prepared remarks and intended to share them during the allotted time for public comments, but as the first hour of comments came to a close, known antisemite Rick Whilby brought the meeting to a screeching halt with a hateful speech. (See “‘Peaceful Walkout’ Speaker, Flinging Antisemitic Tropes, Upends Teaneck Board of Education Meeting.”) The BOE determined to end public comment at that time, and unfortunately, many in attendance were unable to share their concerns and have their voices heard.
The Jewish Link has obtained copies of a few of the prepared remarks that were left unsaid, and has been given permission to share them. These remarks can be found on the next page.
