Tenafly Chabad Academy Fifth Grade Continues Journey Into Empathy

In deepening the understanding of Tenafly Chabad Academy’s fifth graders about individuals with special needs, they had the privilege of hosting Natalie Puccio and her daughter, Francesca. Natalie, who was diagnosed with Scleroderma at the age of 23, generously shared her journey with the students. Scleroderma, an autoimmune disease with diverse manifestations, has posed numerous challenges for Natalie, particularly in the mobility of her hands and fingers, despite undergoing several surgeries.

Natalie candidly discussed the impact of these physical limitations on her daily life, shedding light on both the hurdles she faces and the remarkable strength she draws upon. Her resilience served as a powerful source of inspiration, encouraging those in attendance to embrace the significance of each day.

During her visit, Natalie not only spoke about her personal challenges but also imparted valuable insights on kindness, empathy and support for those dealing with Scleroderma. Her strategies resonated deeply with the fifth graders, fostering a heightened sense of awareness and compassion. Natalie’s message of bravery and optimism left an indelible mark on the students, motivating them to approach life with a greater understanding and readiness to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
