JEC Inaugurates New Early Childhood Playground

The JEC lower school set out on a campaign back in May 2023 to build a playground for their younger students. Fast forward fewer than seven months when, with the sun shining, JEC inaugurated not only a playground, but an almost 3,000 sq. ft. outdoor play area housing two playgrounds.

Over 100 early childhood students were joined by Rav Teitz, Rabbi Shapiro, Rocky and Meir Milgraum, among other supporters and donors for a ribbon cutting ceremony to inaugurate the new play area and playground. Rabbi Beer and Morah Lani led the students in singing and cheering as they finally were able to climb greater heights and enjoy the play area that they have been following and watching be built since Rosh Hashana.

This project is part of JEC’s larger educational philosophy that younger students learn best through play and social engagement. Utilizing the playground and open area, students are able to grow as they explore independently, guided by teachers and professionals, and challenge themselves physically, overcome fears and/or self limitations while engaging with others socially and integrating life values in fun and playful ways. At all age levels, JEC students learn how to share, communicate, interact in healthy and effective ways and expand their horizons. These skills set the foundation for each child to better learn how to be a student and engage with their greater school communities and family.

Special thanks to Rocky and Meir Milgraum, the Hyde and Watson Foundation, E.J. Grassmann Trust, Union Foundation and to the many champions, donors and supporters who helped make this vision a reality. The new outdoor play area and playground is truly an investment in The JEC and their children’s education and future.
