“We’re happy to be back!” said Jack Aaker, co-producer of the Teaneck Teen Idol contest sponsored by the Teaneck Community Chorus. “After the COVID shutdown, this will be our 15th contest celebrating the inspiring talent of Teaneck kids.”
Teaneck Teen Idol is set to return January 13, at 8 p.m., at Teaneck High School. (Doors open at 7:30.)
“Some teens who auditioned knew our history: we’ve had two Teaneck Teen Idol finalists appear on The Voice, said Gail Smith, artistic director of the contest. “Others were attracted by the prizes and the chance to perform in front of a warm, supportive audience.”
Nine finalists were selected in early December. Like American Idol and The Voice, the audience votes for the winner, on January 13, after judges make their comments. In addition to cash prizes for the Teaneck Teen Idol and two runners up, the Idol receives valuable free recording time and advice from Hobo Audio, an award-winning recording studio in New York City.
The nine finalists represent the beautiful range of Teaneck kids. Their performance schedule is drawn in random order. Any adjustments for Sabbath needs of the finalists and their families will be made.
It’s a feel-good evening to support these kids who have the courage to stand up to the mic and sing their hearts out. Tickets are at the door, starting at 7:30 p.m. The price for adults is $20, seniors’ tickets are $15 and students’ are $5.
