The LPS seventh graders had an amazing experience last week. Elliott Hershkovitz, chemist and grandfather to LPS student Maddie Schwartz, came to speak to the girls about chemistry and how it applies to life. Mr. Hershkovitz has been a chemist for fifty two years. He worked with AT&T, BellCon and various automobile companies.
Mr. Hershkovitz spoke about careers in chemistry, how chemistry is used in everyday life, fiber optics and the scientific method. He spoke about his own experiences in which his knowledge of chemistry helped him to solve problems. One of these situations involved silicon and platinum catalysts versus other catalysts.
