Kudos to Mr. Abramchayev for returning the focus of our current political crisis to its ethical dimensions (“Voting With a Heavy Heart,” February 15, 2024). I would expand on his thesis that Jewish ethics should be the basis for judging our political leaders.
The foundation of our moral code is the sanctity of the rule of law and the equal and impartial application of justice, regardless of wealth or status. No one is above the law. We embrace the reality of objective truth and reject falsehoods promulgated in the name of momentary gain and political expediency. We embrace the tripartite system of government and its checks and balances modeled after the Torah’s example (Priest, Prophet and King).
I echo his call to remain steadfast to our Jewish ethical values in the face of attempts to suppress our democratic way of life.
