NJ Avalanche Crowned AHF Champions

Fresh off an undefeated regular season, the North Jersey Avalanche 10U team played this past weekend in the Atlantic Hockey Federation (AHF) playoffs and were ultimately crowned as AHF champions.

The North Jersey Avalanche is a local hockey organization that has allowed their teams to compete in the AHF while working around their schedules around Shabbos and Yom Tov. The AHF is the premier travel youth hockey league with teams throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and across the country.

The 10U Squirt team is made up of mostly fourth and fifth graders from all the local schools. The team first played a round robin set of playoffs winning the New Jersey State bracket after going 3-0 by defeating the Mercer Chiefs (8-2), Mt. Laurel Igloo Jaguars (8-0) and the NJ Bandits (9-2).

The Avalanche thereafter defeated the winner of the Pennsylvania bracket, the Grundy Senators (6-1) for the right to play in the AHF Championship game.

In the finals, the Avs were up against the PAL Sound Tigers of Long Island. Forward Oscar Lichtman (Moriah) netted a hat trick and AHF leading scorer Paul Falkenstein (WTA) scored twice, to tally five goals for the Avalanche. The defense led by Jack Pomerantz (Yavneh) and stellar goaltending from Liam Press (Yavneh) led to a 5-1 win and the AHF Championship to the Avalanche.

Congratulations to all the players: Joseph Boim, Rose Cohen, Dael Elishis, Paul Falkenstein, Charlie Feldman, Akiva Kurz, Oscar Lichtman, Ari Mermel, Rocco Morales, Jack Pomerantz, Ekambir Potukuchi, Liam Press, David Schilowitz, Eli Waldstreicher and all the coaches on a great season.
