Moriah Launches Teshuva Program for Eighth Grade

As the Moriah Middle School prepared for Yom Kippur and learned about making the Aseret Yemei Teshuva as meaningful as possible, the 8th grade was privileged to participate in a thought-provoking program led by Rabbi Fein. Rabbi Fein reviewed some of the primary halachot regarding Teshuva, as written by the Rambam, and how to ensure its success and authenticity. Students participated in a lively discussion about the difficulties and misconceptions that surround making changes in one’s life and aligned the necessary steps for change with the Rambam’s instructions on implementing change for the sake of Teshuva. Students carefully chose one area in their lives where they desire change, many of whom shared their selection, and began outlining when these behaviors tend to occur most, what worries them most about elimination or adding their change of choice and most importantly the ‘big assumption’ they presume will occur if they are successful in making their desired change. After completing each of these steps on the charts provided to them, students submitted their forms and were charged with the challenge of implementing their desired change through Yom Kippur.
