The Humble Toast Sportstar of the Week: Julie Kahane

The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Julie Kahane as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The eighth grader at Yeshivat He’atid scored the first goal for this year’s He’Atid Hurricanes girls soccer team, enroute to their season opening victory. When  asked about Julie, Hurricanes girls soccer coach Ari Wolf told The Jewish Link,  “I have been coaching Julie since sixth grade and I have always been impressed by her determination and dedication to the team. Not only is she a fantastic player but her positive and team focused attitude are a tremendous asset to the team. The entire team will miss her next year!”

Julie, congrats on being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who is your role model and why?

My role model is my soccer coach for AYSO United. He always pushes me to try my hardest, give everything my all, and do my best. When I make a mistake he doesn’t yell at me but rather he explains what I could improve on next time.

What is your favorite sport?

Soccer is my favorite sport. I have been playing soccer since I was about 4 years old. Up until now, playing soccer on a team has been a passion of mine. Soccer has always been something that I enjoy so much and it is a place where I can clear my head and not think about anything else.

What is your pregame routine?

My pregame routine is that I stretch and then I shoot and warm up.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

My greatest sports accomplishment was receiving an award from my travel team. I was selected as one of 16 players out of 9000 players from the AYSO national team. I was selected for the Spring AYSO ID64 award for, “hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence for themselves and their teams.”

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

My favorite athlete is Cristiano Ronaldo because he has always loved soccer, he is extremely good at his sport but also he spoke out against antisemitism.

What is your earliest sports memory?

My earliest sports memory is playing soccer in my front yard with my brothers.

What is your favorite sports memory?

My favorite sports memory was going to a Red Bulls soccer game with my family.

What is your funniest sports memory?

I was about 8 years old and I was dribbling up to the goal and I shot but instead of the ball going into the net, my shoe did.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

My favorite thing to do when I am not playing sports is hanging out with my friends, playing piano and watching movies and shows.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

The best thing about being a Sportstar is feeling good about yourself after playing a good game. It is very rewarding feeling when people congratulate you and tell you that you played well.

The Humble Toast Star of the week will receive a $25 gift card to The Humble Toast. Please send nominees for an upcoming The Humble Toast Jewish Link Stars of the Week to [email protected].
