Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

The Westchester Day School PTA’s 2024 Book Fair transformed the campus shul into a book-lovers’ paradise this week! Kindergarten through eighth grade classes shopped with their teachers and made selections for purchase, and ganon students were treated to “surprise readers” in their classrooms. Many ganon families also joined for a special breakfast and browsing time on Tuesday morning, and families of students of all ages dropped by to browse, shop and schmooze. Author-illustrator Ann D. Koffsky presented to kindergarten and first grade students about the process of designing a character and illustrating a published work, and she shared what inspires her characters and stories. Second through fifth graders were treated to a discussion with Johanna Hurwitz, who has written over 70 titles for children over the course of several decades. She shared some of the stories from her books and how she came up with some of her ideas, and even brought her first book—the one she wrote when she was 8 years old. Thank you to the dedicated parent and grandparent volunteers who made the book fair possible, the dedicated teachers and staff of WDS for supporting the book fair and helping students make great selections, and to WDS families for sharing the gift of books for classroom libraries with the teachers!
