Twice Is Nice but Four Is Better

Dear Ariella B.,

My parents are divorced. They are always trying to top each other. If I get a toy from one the other parent gets me three. I love them and want them just to act normal like everyone else’s family.

What can I do?

Divided David

Dear Divided David,

It must be hard when your parents are divorced. There is, however, a bright side to all this cloudiness … getting double of everything! Think of it this way: A kid usually gets one toy for his or her birthday; you get two or three. It’s a win-win situation.

Not only do you get more toys, but you might even get more family members. You might get more than one mom or dad.

Lastly, remember that every family is different in different ways. Some families are very tall; some are very small; some have a lot of children; you are getting lots of presents! Next time you think you’re divided, David, remember that you are actually multiplied. After all this, I hope you remember to look on the bright side. Unless, of course, your parents decide to start competing against each other in regards to punishments, then you’re in trouble!

Until next time,

Ariella B.
