MYHSAL Boys Basketball Championship Games To Be Held on Sunday

The 2024 MYHSAL boys basketball championship games will be held on Sunday, March 17 at the Max Stern Athletic Center on the campus of Yeshiva University. The JV game, featuring two western conference teams—#1 Frisch and #2 SAR—is scheduled for 2 p.m. The varsity game will showcase two Eastern Conference teams—#1 Magen David and #2 Flatbush—and be held at 5 p.m. Both contests are rivalry games and are expected to hit maximum capacity well before tip-off.

Frisch and SAR’s lone Yeshiva League losses this season were to each other. The two also met in the Katz Yeshiva Invitational Tournament, where the Cougars got the better of the Sting, thereby securing the 1 seed. Frisch defeated HAFTR by seven before hammering Hillel by 20 in the semifinals last Wednesday. SAR knocked off Flatbush by 19 and then outplayed previously undefeated DRS last Thursday, defeating them by 11. All three of these teams’ previous matchups this season have been extremely tight, and this Sunday is expected to be no different.

Magen David sits at 34-2 overall this season, and has only one Yeshiva League blemish, a loss to Frisch on December 3. They haven’t been defeated since. The Warriors easily disposed of SAR in the quarterfinals and then handled HAFTR in a 64-50 victory last Wednesday. Flatbush has done everything this MYHSAL season except for beating Magen David. The Falcons are 1-3 overall against the Warriors; 1-1 in tournament championships (MDY won the Magen David Tournament and Flatbush won the Cooper Tournament), and 0-2 in Yeshiva League play. Three of the four games between these two have been decided by six or fewer points, with two being one possession games. After knocking off Ohr Yisroel in the quarterfinals, Flatbush faced off against defending champions North Shore last Thursday. In a thrilling overtime contest, the Falcons responded to a 25-7 Lions run by closing the game on a 17-2 run of their own, including the final nine points of regulation.

Both games will be broadcast by MacsLive on the MacsLive YouTube channel and www.MacsLive.com.
