Netanel Hershtik Joins Gotham Abstract and Settlement

Choosing the right title company can sometimes make or break a deal. Gotham Abstract and Settlement, a boutique company based in New York City, is a leading name in the realm of title insurance. Established in 2016 by Jonathan Peldman, an attorney from Englewood, Gotham has expanded its reach immeasurably in recent years, serving as a national agency for commercial and residential clients.

An industry veteran, Peldman understands that a title company can directly impact the nature of a transaction. “At Gotham we hold ourselves to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,” he said. As a boutique company, their capacity to handle transactions is not limited, but they emphasize personalized service tailored to each client’s unique circumstances. No deal is too large or too small, Peldman said, adding that Gotham’s clients range from individual homebuyers to the most notable developers and lenders nationwide.

Joining the ranks at Gotham is accomplished cantor and attorney Netanel Hershtik. He is well known in the cantorial community and is the beloved chazan at The Hampton Synagogue. His musical talent became apparent as a young boy singing alongside his father, Chazan Naftali Hershtik, in the Jerusalem Great Synagogue. This coming summer, Hershtik will mark two illustrious decades leading the davening at The Hampton Synagogue under the leadership of Rabbi Marc Schneier. He is proud of what the community has accomplished, and he feels privileged to lead a diverse group of people who gather for tefillah. Through the years he has forged many wonderful connections through singing and takes tremendous pride in continuing his father’s cantorial legacy.

Beyond the bimah, Hershtik is a seasoned attorney who has been working in title insurance for the last eight years, most recently for a small firm in Bergen County. “I had reached a point where I was ready to approach complex transactions on a national level,” he said. He’s excited to join the team at Gotham where he believes the day-to-day culture aligns perfectly with his personal approach to business. Built on principles like transparency and integrity, Gotham has earned the trust and confidence of underwriters and clients alike, Hershtik said.

Hershtik explained that while most transactions run smoothly and are easily navigated in the world of title insurance, there are more complex cases where it’s important to have a deeper understanding of the issues at hand, and a highly experienced title company can make all the difference. At Gotham they work with all types of transactions, including construction deals that are often quite complicated. On the residential side of things, Gotham knows that homebuying is one of the most significant purchases in life and ensures the experience is as stress-free as possible. “We do a lot of hand-holding,” Hershtik said, “and our clients know we are there for them every step of the way.”

In many ways, Hershtik sees parallels between his role as a cantor and a title agent. His legal insight, coupled with his cantorial talent, highlights his ability to connect with people, a skill set he believes has tremendous value in the realm of customer service. “Chazanut is an authentic expression of the heart,” he said, “and when we sing together, we get to know and trust one another.” Similarly, Hershtik said that developing meaningful client connections based on trust and communication is crucial to a successful experience.

Hershtik realizes it’s unique to have two careers, each of which he is passionate about. “As an artist there are highs and lows and sometimes you need to fill a void,” he commented. He appreciates the opportunity to sing, but when he isn’t immersed in chazanut, he needs something else to elevate him. Hershtik feels fortunate that his role as a cantor allows him the flexibility to explore his business dealings and vice versa and assures both his congregants and his clients that he is equally invested in both.

Hershtik lives in Teaneck with his wife and family and is an active member of the Bergen County community. For more information, please visit
