Opening Night Victory for TABC Varsity Hockey

The fans came out in full force for the TABC Storm Varsity Hockey team’s opening game against Ramaz, and the teams didn’t disappoint. After a special dinner and giveaways for the Storm fans before the game, students and parents packed into the gym for what would turn out to be a very exciting win. Ramaz scored first, with a goal early in the first period. However, it didn’t take long for TABC to strike back. After a couple of missed chances in the opponent’s zone TABC was able to capitalize on an opportunity with a goal from junior Ephraim Tiger. Each team scored again, the Storm getting their goal from senior Zach Rothenberg, and the first period ended tied at two apiece. During the intermission, there was a fun shootout contest for fans. After the break, both teams came out eager to get ahead, but neither school could really do so with the teams exchanging another two goals each. TABC’s two goals in the second period were scored by senior captain Zach Rothenberg who, along with the goal at the end of the first period, was able to complete a hat trick. TABC was helped by the intensity of the fans, who filled the ‘Pikachu Pit’ with noise and energy. However, the teams entered the third period tied and looking for another goal to get ahead. Neither school scored until there were four minutes left, when junior Akiva Weider took a beautiful slapshot from three quarters court to put the Storm up by one. This time the Rams couldn’t respond, and as the game was winding down, Tiger scored again on an empty net to seal the game. Solid defense for TABC killed off a penalty late in the game, and strong goaltending from Solly Weiser in the final minutes helped TABC seal the victory.
