Frisch Wins Berman Tournament

The Frisch girls varsity basketball team had an incredible showing in the Berman Invitational Tournament this past weekend, culminating in another victorious championship game. The teams in the tournament consisted of the Berman Cougars (Silver Spring), the Frisch Cougars, the Maimonides M-Cats (Boston), and the SAR Sting.

After a long, four-hour drive on Thursday morning, Frisch faced off against Maimo. Most likely due to the Cougars’ exhaustion, the game started off slow. However, they were able to turn it around by the second quarter and never looked back.

On Friday, the Cougars were subject to back to back games against SAR and Berman, clinching the win for both as well. Frisch set an all-time team record of 82 points against Berman. After these two games, Frisch headed back to their hosts’ homes to get ready for Shabbos.

On Friday night, all the players on each team sat together and enjoyed a delicious dinner courtesy of the Kemp Mill Synagogue. The Cougars enjoyed getting to meet new friends from all over the northeast while bonding over their love of basketball. On Shabbos, the players again enjoyed lunch from the shul and played games with each other, such as the Oreo challenge, and who could eat a Fruit Roll Up the fastest. After lunch, many players hung out at various Berman girls’ houses with their new friends.

On Saturday night everyone was split into two teams—white and colors. The night started off with a fun game between the makeshift teams, where everybody got equal playing time. The energy in the gym was palpable as everyone cheered. Then there was a 3-point contest, which was won by Berman’s Ayla Offer, and a game of line up.

Finally, on Sunday morning there were the playoffs and championship games. Frisch played against Maimo and won to advance to the finals. In a nail-biting game, Berman beat SAR to take the other spot in the championship game, 41-40. After watching the consolation game between Maimo and SAR, which SAR won, the championship game began. The gym was lively and Frisch ultimately emerged victorious, with everyone on the team contributing to the win.

Congrats to tournament all stars Frisch’s Samantha Pruzansky and Atara Forman, Meira Falk (Berman), Leah Kaplan (Maimonides) and Liv Solomon (SAR) for being named to the tournament all-star team, and to Izzy Nadritch for winning MVP of the tournament. Thank you so much to Berman for an amazing weekend, and to the Kemp Mill community for putting together a great tournament and a beautiful Shabbos.
