With elections on everyone’s minds, the Junior High of Bruriah (JHB) has been buzzing with excitement this week. Candidates running for S.O. (Student Organization of Activities) spent Tuesday and Wednesday campaigning, with their final pitch on Thursday in a three minute presentation. The enthusiasm, humor and innovative ideas presented were as diverse as the candidates themselves.

As Mrs. Frumie Greenfeld, Director of Programming noted, “I am so proud of all our candidates who put time and energy into campaigning. It is so incredible to see their talent and creativity.”

Whether an interactive Harry Potter game show, a dance or a multi-media presentation, everyone was caught up in a whirlwind of “election fever.”

Congratulation to the new S.O. Members—Sara Rosenwald (Elizabeth), Samantha Gross (West Orange), Atarah Mandel (Elizabeth), Rebecca Henner (Hillside) and Shoshi Cantor (Hillside).

Being part of the S.O. committee provides students with an opportunity to develop their leadership skills as they assist Mrs. Greenfeld in planning and organizing trips and programs. Getting involved in extra-curricular and outreach opportunities is an integral component of JHB, and the school aims to provide a structure so that each student can get involved.

Some examples are after-school art and cooking clubs, Middle School basketball team, Torah Bowl, newsletter, SPIRIT team (cheering by sports games), JAISAC (Israel awareness), Big Sister Program and JFS food packaging.

Mrs. Zehava Greenwald, Junior High Coordinator “believes strongly that when our girls get involved in these programs, it empowers them. They develop lifelong skills such as confidence, time-management, prioritization and collaboration. There is nothing more rewarding than watching students feel happy and good about themselves.”
