It was an early morning for staff and faculty at the Jewish Educational Center as they opened their doors at the main JEC Campus in Elizabeth this week to host Nachum Segal and his popular JM in the AM radio program live. This marked the fourth time in as many years that the JEC hosted the famed Jewish radio host and his show, this time, in continuation of the school’s 75th anniversary celebrations. Guests included Rav Elazar Mayer Teitz, Dean of the JEC, who recollected the early years of Jewish radio, which his father Rav Pinchas Mordechai zt”l pioneered with his Daf Hashavuah that, by accounts, succeeded in reaching over a million listeners over the years. The Rav’s sister Dr. Rivkah Blau also joined Nachum on the air and discussed the evolution of Jewish education for young women and how Bruriah, the JEC’s world-renowned high school for girls, paved the way for educational opportunities for young Orthodox women in cities throughout the country.
