In honor of Thanksgiving, the students in the ganim at JKHA learned about the Pilgrims and Native Americans, the difference between their own lives and those of the Pilgrims and the difference between needs and wants. They then listened to numerous stories about the holiday and completed a story bracelet while listening to the story of the first Thanksgiving. After partnering with their third grade learning buddies to discuss what they are thankful for and completing a Mayflower craft, the students continued with the Thanksgiving theme by completing a turkey pumpkin craft. Students were very excited to visit their Thanksgiving centers including Native American vest and headdress creations, a placemat craft, a thankful wreath, fruit cornucopia concoctions and various other activities.
