Last week, Bruriah High School culminated a beautiful year of Toameha programming, a monthly Bruriah Erev Shabbos tradition. The Toameha program highlights the spiritual components of Shabbos in the form of zemiros, learning, and divrei Torah, and complements them with delicious Shabbos food. For last week’s final Toameha program, students focused on the words of the first Ani Maamin, “Shehaborei yisborach shimo hu borei umanhig…,” and discussed the primacy of Hashem and His role in creation, specifically as it relates to the Day of Rest. After gaining appreciation for these immortal words, they then sang “Ani Maamin” together kumzitz-style. They finished up the event with delicious cholent and deli roll.

Students Shulamis Miller and Rosa Miodownik have been enthusiastically spearheading the Toameha program for the past two years as they feel that an extra Erev Shabbos boost is crucial to appreciating the special day. “We pay so much attention to the physical aspects of Shabbos preparation,” explained Miller, “It’s so important to prioritize spiritual preparation as well.”

As students reflect on another successful year of Toameha, they are grateful for the infusion of kedusha that the program provided students with in school, thus enabling them to spread the kedusha at home.
