Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and offers an occasion to raise awareness and educate the public about mental illnesses, reduce stigma and promote overall mental health and well-being. Keta Medical Center is dedicated to educating the communities that it serves about the benefits of Ketamine, and providing accessible care to all. This mission is incorporated into all aspects of Keta Medical’s practice – from its evening and Sunday office hours, to insurance assistance and its warm and supportive staff.

Ketamine, once primarily known as an anesthetic, has emerged as a promising treatment for various mental health disorders, particularly depression, anxiety and PTSD. Unlike traditional antidepressants, which may take weeks to show effects, Ketamine can often produce rapid relief, sometimes within hours. This rapid action is particularly valuable for individuals at risk of self-harm or those facing severe depressive episodes. Clinical studies have shown that Ketamine works by targeting glutamate, a neurotransmitter involved in learning and memory. By modulating glutamate, Ketamine may help to repair dysfunctional neural circuits implicated in mood disorders.

In 2019, the FDA approved a nasal spray formulation of Ketamine called Esketamine or Spravato. It has been shown to help patients with treatment resistant depression and facilitates access as it is covered by insurance.

The center provides Ketamine treatment that can offer hope to individuals who have exhausted conventional treatment options and are in urgent need of relief. At Keta Medical Center, the aim is to facilitate treatment to those in need. The center offers an initial free phone consultation with one of its doctors to find out if Ketamine is an appropriate treatment option. Find out more information on the center’s website at www.ketamc.com.
