(Courtesy of JHS) The Jewish Historical Society of North Jersey (JHS) will celebrate its eighth annual dinner on Thursday, May 23. The event will take place at Temple Emanuel in Franklin Lakes at 6 p.m. JHS will be honoring the late Miriam Gray and the late Dr. Morris Joelson.

Gray was a long-time devoted volunteer and officer of the Jewish Historical Society, dating back to when the JHS was located in the Barnert Hospital in Paterson. She continued volunteering with the organization when it moved to its present location in Fair Lawn. Gray was instrumental in promoting the mission of the historical society throughout Bergen and Passaic Counties.

Dr. Joelson was a beloved physician who practiced in northern New Jersey in the early to mid-20th century. He delivered close to 20,000 babies during his career. Dr. Joelson is best remembered as an old-fashioned physician who made house calls and treated all patients regardless of their ability to pay for his services. His black medical bag, along with the instruments he used to treat his patients will be on display at the dinner. The evening will feature a musical presentation in memory of Dr. Joelson by guitarist Aaron Nathans, nephew of JHS founder, Jerry Nathans.
