RYNJ Eighth Grade Basketball Jaguars Upset the Sting

On Monday, January 9, the RYNJ Jaguars hosted the first place SAR Sting, matching up for the second time this season. The two teams played at SAR last month, with SAR coming from behind late to take the W. This game was fought just as tough, with RYNJ leading most of the way, but the Sting was able to keep it close throughout.

The Jags took an early lead, led by a backcourt of Yonah Tarzik and Tzvi Motechin. However, the Sting was not going to let its perfect season go without a fight. All-star forwards Henry Mann (team high 16 points) and Eli Nuwirth showed what champions are made of, battling hard on both sides of the court to keep their team in it till the final seconds.

It was an exciting game throughout, but when the final buzzer sounded the Jaguars handed the Sting their first loss of the season, 53-52, bringing the two teams into a first place tie.

It was a tremendous game for both teams, with the Jaguars led by Tarzik’s 23 points and the ferocious inside defense of Tani Engel, Coby Mandel and Avraham Glatter.

The Jags look to extend their three game winning streak on Monday night against the defending champion Noam Knights.
