Fourth graders at Yeshivat He’Atid are experiencing the power of putting learning into action. Science lessons this year focused on the different types of energy and how energy acts and reacts. Students have been reading and writing about kinetic, electrical and sound energy, and most importantly, they have experienced each.
For their unit on kinetic energy, the students observed the interactions between moving and stationary objects, and measured the effects one object had on the other. Electrical energy involved building circuits and making observations about the process.
Most recently, students learned about sound energy and how it travels. The concept of pitch was studied as students created homemade kazoos. They recorded their observations as the length and shape of the kazoos changed, and developed theories about their observations.
