The Moriah School in Englewood, New Jersey, one of the nation’s premier Jewish day schools, educating more than 700 students across Bergen County, will be hosting its 52nd annual dinner on Saturday night, February 25. The dinner will take place at the Hilton Meadowlands Hotel in East Rutherford, New Jersey, at 8:00 p.m. Motzei Shabbat. This year’s honorees are Debbie and Steven Siegler (Guests of Honor), Lindsay and Daniel (’99) Setton, and Toby Eizik and Barbara Rotenberg (Rabbi J. Shelley Applbaum Award), with a special recognition to Rabbi Shmuel Goldin for years of service to the community.
Debbie and Steven Siegler, proud parents of Shira (Moriah ‘17), Jonah (Moriah ‘19), Nava (Moriah ‘21) and Talia (Moriah ‘24), have both been involved in the broader community since they moved to Englewood in 2004. Debbie served as the Moriah Association of Parents (MAP) co-president for two years and continues to serve on the MAP board. Debbie also served as treasurer and co-president of the sisterhood of Congregation Ahavath Torah in Englewood. She volunteers to restock the kosher kitchen at Englewood Hospital, participates in Bikur Cholim throughout the community and recently completed her role as co-president of the Englewood chapter of Emunah. Steven has served on the executive committee at Moriah for five years and has been deeply involved with the early childhood and Gesher Yehuda programs, while leading various committees and initiatives for the board of trustees. Steven was also a member of the board of trustees of Congregation Ahavath Torah for several years and has volunteered for Project Ezrah in many capacities.
Lindsay and Daniel (Moriah ‘99) Setton live in Englewood, New Jersey, and are the proud parents of Marcky (Moriah ‘23), Neesy (Moriah ‘25), Harrison (Moriah ‘27), Annie (Moriah ‘28) and Moses (Moriah ‘30). Lindsay loves to spend her days at Moriah volunteering for the Sephardic cultural program, admissions committee, lifecycle committee, as well as acting as the early childhood liaison coordinator and serving on the Moriah board. She also chairs the welcoming committee for Congregation Ahavath Torah and is involved in coordinating community-wide events throughout the year. Daniel is involved with the Sephardic cultural program and has been instrumental in organizing a Sephardic minyan at Moriah with parent involvement.
Barbara Rotenberg, Moriah’s middle school coordinator, became a Moriah parent in September of 1980 and has been a part of the Moriah family ever since. She joined the Moriah staff in 1992 in the business office, front office and Jewish studies department. Most recently, she served as yearbook adviser and middle school coordinator. Barbara has worked closely with Moriah’s administrators, teachers, parents and students and has played a key role in countless activities and projects and in the day-to-day running of the school. A former MAP treasurer, Barbara also served as co-president of the Frisch Parents Association, was a member of the board of directors of The Frisch School and was co-president of the Geulah chapter of Amit. Barbara and her husband, Joseph, are the proud parents of Jeffrey (Moriah ‘89) and Rachel, Michelle (Moriah ‘91), Yoni (Moriah ‘95) and Chani, Daniella (Moriah ‘97) and Scott, and Ariel (Moriah ‘01) and Sheri as well as the proud grandparents of Akiva, Keren, Eli, Benjy, Eliana, Yehuda, Zisi and Ava.
Over the course of over a decade, Toby Eizik, affectionately known as “Nurse Toby,” has tended to, bandaged, nurtured, comforted and assisted hundreds of Moriah students, many of whom now have their own children in school. Anyone who sends their children to Moriah is familiar with Nurse Toby’s lovable habits. Nurse Toby also uses Moriah as an outlet for her creative energy so that she can enhance special events with her special talents. Her resume includes “The Lion King,” siddur plays, past dinner choir presentations and more. Nurse Toby and her husband, Yaakov, are the proud parents of Tamar and Josh, Elli and Selina and Naomi, and proud grandparents of Yitzchak Mordechai, Rivka Miriam, Aiden and Skyler.
As the rabbi of Congregation Ahavath Torah in Englewood, New Jersey, for over 30 years, Rabbi Shmuel Goldin has had a tremendous impact on our local community. Rabbi Goldin holds a particularly special place at The Moriah School. He has been considered to be the rabbinical posek for Moriah for many years, answering halachic matters pertaining to the school. He has also helped bridge the school and shul connection for many of our Englewood families. Most recently, the 2015-2016 eighth graders were privileged to have Rabbi Goldin teach the “Names Not Numbers” class. He is a master teacher, and his lessons left a lasting imprint on our students.
