Jerusalem—AMIT, Israel’s premier educational network, has announced that 1,500 students from its 110 schools in 29 cities throughout the country will take part in FIRST Robotics programs in 2017. The students will compete in different competitions specifically geared toward their age group within Israel. Winning teams will go on to represent the country in international competitions.
AMIT’s robotics program follows the challenges and guidelines of the international FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) organization, designed to inspire student interest and participation in science and technology. The organization designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge and life skills. The students’ participation is funded by a partnership between AMIT and Israel’s Ministry of Education.
The students will break into teams representing their schools and their age group and tackle the same challenges that their peers in other countries are facing. Participation in these programs have proven to encourage students to pursue further education and careers in STEM-related fields and enhancing their 21st-century work-life skills. AMIT’s robotics program is geared toward laying the groundwork for students to become the science and technology leaders of Israel’s future by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills that foster well-rounded life capabilities including creativity, innovation, self-confidence, communication and leadership.

In 2016, AMIT robotics teams won numerous awards including AMIT Kamah Yerucham winning the FIRST preliminary national competition, and AMIT Sderot Yeshiva winning the YTEK National Mathematics, Aerospace and Robotics Olympiad.
