‘Question Boxes’ Address RKYHS Students’ Inquiries Beyond Classroom Curriculum

Over the course of a year of study in limudei kodesh classes, students engage with text and build skills so that they may continue to learn on their own even after they graduate. Often students find that they have questions about Judaism that are not directly related to the curricular material, but that are critical to their development as thinking, growing Jews. As such, many classes have introduced “Question Boxes” in which students can write pressing questions that they would like their Judaic studies teachers to address. Students may choose to write their names, or they may write the questions anonymously. Many students report that the conversations that arise on Question Box days are the ones that stay with them the most. These conversations build student-teacher relationships and allow students to think about their relationship to Torah in a mature, non-judgmental environment.
