Ahavas Achim University Sponsors Shabbaton With Rabbi Michael Taubes

In conjunction with Yeshiva University’s Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, which will celebrate its Chag Hasemicha in March, Ahavas Achim University presents a Shabbat Experience with RIETS Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Michael Taubes next Shabbat, February 24-25.

On Friday night, February 24, at 8:30 p.m., Rabbi Taubes will give a shiur on “Educating Our Children: How Should We Measure Success?” This will be followed by an oneg Shabbat.

On Shabbat morning, February 25, Rabbi Taubes will give a shiur after Mussaf, in the main sanctuary, on “Machatzit HaShekel and the Price of Membership in Klal Yisrael.” There will be a pre-Mincha shiur at 4:30 p.m., given by RIETS musmach, class of 2017, Rabbi Eliron Levinson, on “Megillat Esther Through the Vilna Gaon’s Prism.” Finally, Rabbi Taubes will give a seuda shlishit shiur at 6:00 p.m., titled “Behind The Mask: The Inner Meaning of Purim.”

Rabbi Michael Taubes teaches Yoreh Deah at RIETS. He has served as the rosh yeshiva and head of school at MTA and the head of school at the Mesivta of North Jersey, in addition to teaching in YU’s James Striar School of General Jewish Studies and the Isaac Breuer College of Hebraic Studies.

An alumnus of Yeshivat Har Etzion in Israel, Rabbi Taubes attended Yeshiva College, earned his semicha from RIETS, where he studied in the shiur of Rav Joseph B. Soloveitchik, z”l, and holds a master’s degree in Jewish education from YU’s Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology. Rabbi Taubes, along with his wife and their children, reside in Teaneck, where he serves as the rabbi of Congregation Zichron Mordechai, delivering regular shiurim and lectures both at the shul and at the Beis Medrash of Bergen County.

Rabbi Taubes is the author of “The Practical Torah,” a collection of articles on topics in halacha based on the weekly parsha, as well as numerous essays on an array of Torah subjects appearing in Jewish publications.
