SAR JV Boys Win Soccer Championship

The battle for the Yeshiva League JV soccer championship came down to the SAR Sting and Frisch Cougars, two of the most successful athletic powerhouses, who squared off on Sunday, June 9, at Ma’ayanot.

Led by sophomore Caleb Rosenberg and his record-setting, 59 regular season goals, SAR was considered the slight favorite. For much of the first half, it was a very close game, with SAR leading 2-0 and Frisch storming back. SAR goalie Yishai Davidovics made some impressive saves and SAR took a 6-3 lead at the midpoint of the game. SAR’s starting lineup included Rosenberg, Noam Davies, Josh Back and Jack Linhart, and they played exceptional team soccer. Off the bench, freshman sensation Chananya Schlaff-Pearlberg heroically played despite a fractured finger, and contributed a goal.

The second half saw SAR’s lead widen. Sophomore Davies, one year after being the championship MVP, was keen on SAR going back-to-back; he dominated the game with six goals. Rosenberg scored one goal, his 100th of his storied two-year career, and chipped in six assists.

Back and Schlaff-Pearlberg were pests on the offensive and defensive ends. Linhart showed impressive footwork throughout the 60 minutes and employed multiple headers. In the waning minutes, sophomore Netanel Sadigh scored a goal as well. In net, Davidovics displayed his stopper gifts, playing a pivotal role for the Sting on the biggest stage.

Congratulations to Frisch for their incredible season. Gilad Adler scored half of the Cougars’ goals and the team’s talent was magnificent. After back-to-back JV titles, the SAR sophomores are eager to bring their soccer talents to the varsity level.
