Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva is improving nutrition and nutrition education with the help of alumna Gila Guzman, the director of Main Asset Health LLC and certified integrative nutrition health coach. Guzman led two different faculty sessions at the school to discuss informed food choices and conscientious decision-making. Included in the sessions was a close look at how school activities involve food, such as Shabbat and birthday parties, and how to best use them for healthy learning opportunities. RPRY additionally established a nutrition committee to improve the school’s food policies and evaluate ways to promote health and wellbeing.
When the fourth grade class marked a siyum on Parshat Vayeshev this winter, the students created scenes from the parsha using dried fruit and pretzels. The variety of colors in the fruit gave wide creative license for the students to design elaborate and fun scenes from the parsha they studied. Their happy smiles as they showcased their creations spoke for themselves as they learned that healthy snacks make for a fun class activity.
RPRY’s parents’ organization, RPRY+, welcomes the whole community to a cooking demo and workshop at RPRY by Coach Gila for tips on healthy eating through the winter, to be held on February 26 at 8pm. For more information or to register, visit www.tinyurl.com/RPRYcookingdemo.
