RKYHS Model UN Team Represents Its Countries Well in YU Tournament

The RKYHS Model UN team recently participated in the Yeshiva University National Model United Nations (YUNMUN) tournament, the largest Jewish academic tournament in the United States. The RKYHS delegation represented the nations of Canada and Pakistan on a variety of committees including Middle East Summit, the World Health Organization, Human Rights Council and seven others.

The goal of the competition is to craft resolutions which represent real solutions to critical problems confronting the world. Students learn important skills of advocacy and extemporaneous speaking. In COPUOS for example, the Committee on the Peaceful Use of Outer Space, the group had the opportunity to share the stance of its country, Canada, while collaborating with other delegates from other yeshivot representing diverse points of view. The students learned to listen and compromise to pass three resolutions.

Senior Nina Kahn commented, “Participating in Model UN has helped me hone my public speaking skills, and it has broadened my perspective of world issues and the stances countries take in that regard. Overall, I had a blast.”

This special event fostered camaraderie, learning and fun, while students got meet with their peers from dozens of schools from the United States, Canada and beyond.
