What is extra special about Fridays at Lubavitch on the Palisades School? It could be pizza, it could be Fun Friday in many classrooms, it could be the early dismissal and it could even be music classes for the youngest elementary-school students. But the most special thing about Fridays at LPS is the elective period. Every Friday, from 10:45 until 11:15, students take a class of their choosing. There are many options. This semester, students can choose from drama games, ceramics and sculpture, fun creative writing, advanced Jewish learning with Rabbi Katz, library time, boot camp fitness, instrumental music and newspaper. This semester, LPS also offered a new elective on computer keyboarding. All students in grades one through seven participate in the elective program. It is a highlight for many students and morahs who get to channel their talents and interests into an elective that is meaningful and enjoyable to them. In the age of 21st-century education and student-centered learning, electives enable students to make choices and explore interests.
