(Courtesy of Anshe Sholom) On Sunday, June 9, Congregation Anshe Sholom of New Rochelle marked its 128th year with one of its most successful testimonial dinners ever.
Honorees Drs. Sandy and Morris Schoeneman have been pillars of Anshe Sholom since joining 10 years ago. As Shul President Yael Schulman put it, they are “doers, daveners and donors.”
AnnBeth Cohen and Joel Givertz received the Allen Glick Memorial Service Award for their many outstanding contributions to the congregation and to the community at large for many years. They recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.
Anshe Sholom also recognized the bravery and dedication of three of its members who heeded the call to return to Israel to fight in the IDF in the current war against Hamas: Orzion Perlstein, Ariel Sheleg and Michael Turjeman. The congregation thanks God for their safe return.
The shul’s ballroom was filled to capacity with friends and families enjoying the great food, music and joy that was apparent throughout the evening. The honorees received proclamations from the state, county and municipal governments. A special visit from longtime friend Westchester County Executive George Latimer was a highlight of the evening.
All in all, it was a wonderful event that will bring warm memories and spark renewed energy as Congregation Anshe Sholom goes forward.
