Chai Lifeline knew that they could count on Gila and Efraim Gerzberg of Highland Park for all sorts of support in their work. And that is why they sent a busload of energetic Israeli children who just landed at JFK airport, to the Gerzberg’s home on July 25 for a few hours of swimming and snacking before the kids went up to Camp Simcha, Chai Lifeline’s medically supervised overnight camp in Glen Spey, New York.

The group of 26 Israeli boys and their counselors are in the United States to attend the world-renowned Camp Simcha. Every summer, nearly 1,000 children with complex medical challenges take part in Camp Simcha, Camp Simcha Special and the community-based Camp Simcha Without Borders, in cities nationwide. The journey of Israeli children to Camp Simcha required intricate planning, including travel, comprehensive medical care and dedicated counselors trained to address their unique needs.

The Gerzbergs were pleased to open their home and their backyard for a morning pool party and expansive brunch to welcome the boys and their counselors to the U.S.. They also invited their daughter Mia and neighborhood friends Lynn Even-Hen, Devora Zinkin, Penina Shmuel, Rena Klein and Noa Elbaum to extend a community spirit to the gathering. Watching the kids enjoy all the activities at the Gerzberg’s home, it was clear that the inviting pit stop was very much appreciated.
