The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Tzvi Selevan as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The 8-year-old has been a standout player in the Bergen County Flag Football League and on two TBO travel teams this past season. When asked about Tzvi, TBO coach Allan Teller told The Jewish Link, “He loves baseball, just loves to play. He doesn’t care where in the field he plays or where he bats. As long as he is playing he is thrilled.”
Tzvi, congratulations on being recognized as this week’s sportstar of the week. Who is your role model and why ?
My Saba is my role model because he always plays with me and helps me practice to get better at the sports I am playing. He shows me how much fun playing sports can be but also that it is important to practice hard if you want to keep getting better.
What is your favorite sport?
Baseball. It is something I was naturally drawn to since I was a baby and I was asking to watch baseball games on TV when I was only 2 years old. I love everything about it but hitting is my favorite part.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
Getting to play on two travel baseball teams at the same time this summer, both the 8U and 9U Teaneck teams. We made the playoffs for both teams! We made it all the way to the semifinal for 8u and the championship for 9u.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Aaron Judge. He is my favorite baseball player on my favorite team. He’s the best!
What is your earliest sports memory?
Watching my Saba coach in a championship basketball game and organizing pretend sports games with my friends when we were in nursery.
What is your favorite sports memory?
I have two. I got to go to Florida to watch the Israel baseball team in a couple of games when they were playing in the World Baseball Classic last year. I even got to go on the field for batting practice and I got autographs from all of the players! Also, I got a foul ball at the Yankee game last month. It was so exciting!
What is your funniest sports memory?
I am very lucky that my Saba coaches a lot of teams and I get to sit with him on the bench and help him coach. When I was little I would color pictures on my Saba’s whiteboard and tell him that I was drawing up plays for the game when they were just scribbles.
What do you like to do when you are not playing sports?
Do watching sports and playing sports video games count? I also love hanging out with my friends.
What is your pregame routine?
If the weather is nice I like to try and warm up in my backyard before any games either by myself or with my parents or brothers by getting some swings in, shooting hoops or getting some shots in on our hockey net depending on what sport I am playing.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
I love getting to play sports with my friends and be part of a team. Also, I love reading The Jewish Link every Friday night, especially the sports section. It is going to be so exciting to get to see myself in the paper!
The Humble Toast Star of the week will receive a $25 gift card to The Humble Toast. Please send nominees for an upcoming The Humble Toast Jewish Link Stars of the Week to [email protected].
