Tip #6 of 52 from Gun For Hire: (Step 3) Before I Qualify, I’d Like Lessons or to Practice With My Carry Gun.

Applying for your carry permit in New Jersey can be broken down into a five-step process. Follow along the next few weeks where we break down each step. From getting your Firearms ID card, choosing the right gun for you, to shooting the qualification course. Each step is also broken down on our website GunForHire.com/NJCCW. If at any point you have questions, please send an email to: [email protected] or stop in Gun For Hire any time we are open.

Below is Gun For Hire’s 5-Step process to carry!

Step 1: I need to apply for a FID Card and/or Pistol Purchase Permit. (See Tip #4 from July 25, 2024.)

Step 2: I need to determine and purchase the right pistol I would like to carry. (See Tip #5 from August 1, 2024.)

Step 3: Before I qualify, I’d like lessons or to practice with my carry gun.

Step 4: I need to shoot the qualification course.

Step 5: I’m ready to apply for my carry license online.

This week we are discussing Step 3:

Step 3: Before I qualify, I’d like lessons or to practice with my carry gun.

Our 6-Star Gun Range is the perfect place for you to come and practice for your upcoming PTC Qualification. You have some great options below. Choose the best option for your level.

  1. Bring your firearm to Gun For Hire, any time the range is open. At the retail counter, tell our staff you would like to practice and shoot the qualification course. They will hand you the correct target and course of fire. (Note: If you have not taken our Holster Draw Course, you will practice the qualification from the ready position.) You can also purchase time with a Range Safety Officer to stand in the port and give great tips that will help you improve your score. Walk in anytime. We always have RSOs available.
  2. You can schedule a private lesson, which is two hours of one-on-one training. The instructor will work with you on everything you need to feel comfortable and confident with your firearm. To see the upcoming available schedule for private training, head to GunForHire.com/private.
  3. Sign up for NRA Basics of Pistol. We highly recommend this course if you are a new gun owner. This course also allows you to apply for the Florida Non-Resident Carry Permit, which will allow you to carry in approximately 35 states. If you are interested in taking our Holster Draw Course, this NRA Basics of Pistol course is a prerequisite. To see the available dates and times for NRA Basics of Pistol head to GunForHire.com/pistol.

We hope you enjoyed this week’s tip! Curious about shooting for the first time, or looking for advanced holster training? We would love to welcome you to Gun For Hire to experience our 6-Star Family Gun Range, Gun Store, and Training.
