Bruriah’s winning streak continued as its debate team proved victorious once again with its defeat last week of five schools in a debate competition. The resolution of the debate was “The United States should build a more substantial barrier along the U.S-Mexico border,” and was argued by students from SAR, Ma’ayanot, Yeshiva of Flatbush, Ilan and Prospect Park.
Bruriah graduates Rochel Hirsch and Allie Schachter coached the Bruriah team and team captains included Ava Weitz and Brocha Silverman.
Aside from the winning of rounds, awards were given to the highest scoring individual speakers, the highest scoring teams and the best performing school. Bruriah won first place school at the debate and had the most school wins (5/8 rounds). Several students also took home personal awards including second place individual speaker Brocha Silverman; tied for third place individual speaker Elisheva Hirsch; second place team Brocha Silverman and Zahava Davidowitz; and third place team Dina Joseph and Elisheva Hirsch.
