Jewish Center of Teaneck Holds Annual Amsel Memorial ‘Big Bread Burn’

On Monday morning, April 10, the Jewish Center of Teaneck held the Annual Amsel Memorial Biur Chametz (Burning of Bread) event. This was the 10th year for the community-wide event. We thank the generous sponsors: Heichal Ha-Torah, Beth Aaron, Rinat Yisrael, Netivot Shalom, Ohr Saadyah and Young Israel of Teaneck.

A popular feature of the event for the children, and adults sometimes too, was the kosher-for-Pesach lollypops that were handed out to everyone. Red fireman hats were also given out to all the children.

The Teaneck firemen and policemen were in attendance during the whole period of the Big Bread Burn.

We thank the Teaneck Fire Department for the fire trucks and the Fire Safety Trailer Learning Truck, and the dedicated firemen that were helping to create a learning experience in stressing fire safety for young children and families. Children were treated to sitting inside one of the two fire trucks in the parking lot. The firemen even explained and showed some of the fire equipment to the children.

There were over 1000 people streaming in from 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.: parents, grandparents and children from Teaneck and the surrounding towns as well as visitors who were staying with friends and family during the holiday of Pesach.

The Jewish Center of Teaneck is a modern Orthodox synagogue with daily, Shabbat and holiday services.
