Jews and Antisemitism: A Bigger Question

You may wonder just how successful antisemites are in making America an uncomfortable place for Jews to live and making unvetted illegal immigrants an attractive country in which they can survive. While Americans are focused on the economy and the presidential election, protesters pretty much have a free hand to threaten Jews all over the world. For many Jews, Israel provides a viable alternative to the precarious future in America.

Jews need to understand that politicians are in business to win an election and will do what is necessary to accomplish that goal. Provided with the option of protecting Jews or tolerating a combination of foreign-funded protests and a flood of dangerous illegal immigrants into America, politicians will weigh their position in terms of the advantages gained in their pursuit of their ultimate goal. At least today, Jews making aliyah, with all its uncertainty, can go to a place promised to them. In Israel, Jews are not colonizers, not invaders and not aliens.

Throughout history, Jews have had an ephemeral acceptance in many different countries, only to eventually be expelled or destroyed. Unlike the Warsaw Ghetto uprising that lasted just short of a month, the Jews in Israel are not fighting to survive in a foreign land but in a land of their own.

It is important to note that the United Nations recognized Israel in 1947 as part of a partition plan of Palestine. Thus, Jews have a biblical and contemporary claim to Israel. To reject Israel as a legitimate country for Jews is a rejection of Hashem and the legitimacy of the United Nations. No obfuscation can justify what is happening to Jews in America or Israel. You cannot have antisemitism without Jews. The question is whether or not the world can survive by accepting Jews and rejecting antisemitism.
